The National Federation of Emeralds of Colombia, FEDESMERALDAS, is a union entity founded in 1988 with the purpose of developing, representing, defending and guiding the Colombian emerald industry, from the principles of ethics and unity. It has the highest recognition as an association within the union in the country and brings together the largest number of formal actors in this production chain. It administers the National Emerald Fund, which by law collects a parafiscal tax in the order of 1% of all exports of this stone. These resources are invested with a strict policy of transparency and honesty with a specific destination on three programmatic axes: promotion of emeralds in their production, transformation, commercialization and export phases; development of projects aimed to increase competitiveness and, finally, the advancement of community and social development initiatives in the emerald production region.
