• The emerald exploitation began with a robust infrastructure plan in the Western zone of the Boyaca department. • We finished the construction of the facility for our workshop of emeralds transformation in the Bogota Free Trade Zone. • Colombian Texas Transformadora began its operations preparing and training our team in new technologies.
• We started to design and standarized the cutting processes, as well as the traceability of the product at each stage. Also the transformation procedures of the emeralds in the facilities located in the Bogota Free Trade Zone. • The National Apprenticeship Service (SENA) certified us in the gem cutting procedures.
• Our production team received training in Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). • CTT's quality management system was certified under the ISO 9001:2008 standard, being the only company in the sector certified under this standard.
• We started a pioneer emerald mining project with the construction of a spiral ramp to reach the mine faster and more safely. • Our workshop, located in the Bogota Free Trade Zone, was renovated to guarantee safer and more respectful operations with people and the environment. • We reached 10,000 cut stones since the beginning of CTT's operations in the Bogota Free Trade Zone.
• We acquired 100% of the mining titles of the Puerto Arturo mine and we bought heavy machinery for MTC: We own the first Scooptram in the emerald sector in Colombia. • We updated the certification of competence for gem cutting by SENA.
•Furatena Cacao started its operations to promote an alternative development of our communities. • We started the processing of “morralla” type material in our transformation workshop. • We started the "Atlas of Inclusions" project, in order to identify and parameterize inclusions in gems, seeking to provide the sector with greater knowledge of emeralds. • We carry out case studies and analysis of the stones to increase the quality of the management product. • We updated the certification of the Quality Management System for our transformation workshop, under the ISO 9001:2008 standard. • We reached the goal of 15,000 stones cut.
• We started the implementation of the Integrated Management System to achieve greater traceability in our production. • Our cutting processes were standardized according to European markets. • IWe began the implementation of the best practices of the Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC) for all our operations.
• Our first internal Occupational Health and Safety auditors were certified by MTC. • The EDLA facilities were changed for a high-tech workshop and in compliance with stricter safety regulations. • Furatena Cacao began purchasing and selling cacao from Western Boyacá.
• Our MTC mining operations obtained OHSAS 18001 certification. • Our transformation workshop, Colombian Texas Transformadora (CTT), changed to Esmeraldas de los Andes (EDLA), as part of the consolidation of The Muzo Companies in Colombia. • We structured the valuation area in EDLA. • We have transformed more than 32,525 stones in EDLA since the start of operations and hired more than 45 expert preformers and treatment specialists.
• Minería Texas Colombia was divided into two companies to specialize their activities: Colombian Shared Services (CSS), which provides shared services for The MUZO Companies Colombia, and Esmeraldas Mining Services (EMS), in charge of the exploration and exploitation of emeralds. • The Muzo Foundation began its operations and development of social projects in the region. • Furatena Cacao increased transnational operations from 75,291 to 193,274 kilos purchased and, from 95,094 to 174,459 kilos sold. • We received the ISO 9001:2015 quality certification for EDLA operations. • We successfully exported more than 1 million carats to different countries around the world. • We participated and sponsored the II World Emerald Symposium to strengthen our corporate image throughout the world.
• EMS/MTC entered the list of the 10 best mining companies in the official mining reputation ranking “Mining Compass”. • We held the first Green Mining Forum with the participation of government entities and authorities in matters of mining and economic policies. • Furatena Cacao was awarded the Significant Experiences award by the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia.
• We were awarded Sustainability of the Year price by the JNA Awards for our Corporate Social Responsibility projects and the business model Mine to Market. • The Ministry of Mines and Energy named MTC, now Esmeraldas Mining Services - EMS, as one of the most influential mining companies in Colombia in 2020, being part of the TOP 5 of the official ranking. • Furatena Cacao managed to reach historical figures for the purchase and export of cocoa from Western Boyacá.
• We overcame the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and reactivated all of our operations, reintegrating all the personnel of The MUZO Companies Colombia. • We were part of Government’s private vaccination campaign against COVID-19 and we bought vaccines for all our workers, especially the mine personnel of the Muzo and Quípama region. • The Muzo Foundation reactivated all of its social projects and managed to exceed the social investment required by the National Government, we invested nearly one hundred million Colombian pesos more than what was demanded.
