With this signing, the integration into the formality of dozens of artisanal miners to develop Social Green Mining is formalized.
On January 31th, at the Colombian Shared Services facilities, the first contract between the mining representatives of the AMUZQUI association and Esmeraldas Mining Services (EMS) was successfully signed, taking a big step forward in the formalization project ‘Pymineras ‘ which was announced in the year 2022.
With the signing of the contract, the work plan for the exploitation of the mine known as ‘Palo Blanco’ will officially begin, which is part of the mining titles managed by The Muzo Companies Colombia, also allowing the Association of Artisanal Miners de Muzo and Quípama ´AMUZQUI´, start the banking process.
Initially, there will be 40 miners who will benefit from this project, being trained to replace “guaquería” practices with formal, technical mining activities and complying with current legislation, with safe working conditions.
From the Muzo Colombia Companies, an initial budget will be provided so that the project can start and begin. Additionally, once the extraction operation starts in the work fronts, they will be given technical assistance, training, aside from making the necessary contributions for the initial part of the project.
This project, a pioneer in the emerald mining sector, seeks to transform the practices and culture of the “guaquería” that puts the lives of the miners at risk and threatens the environment. The production they extract will be purchased by our companies so that the mineral continues its transformation process and so AMUZQUI association has a continuous and secure source of income.
It is expected that in the coming weeks the necessary machinery for the operation will begin to be purchased. Additionally, each miner must complete the training process that includes courses on heights, occupational health and safety and environmental responsibility, among others. The success of the project will serve as an example for other companies and mining regions, seeking to benefit more people so that they have decent working conditions, promoting sustainability, legality and economic and social progress
