Hoping to contribute to the protection of the environment, EMS carried out its fourth day of reforestation. An initiative that has become a tradition in the company and that has allowed the reforestation of more than 21 areas in recent years.

This year, the activity had a special reason for celebration: the company received the certification of ‘Producer of plant material’ by the ICA (Colombian Agricultural Institute) for its nursery, which allows them to have greater control and quality in the process of plant production.

During the day, several species of trees were selected to plant, both endemic and those that have not grown in the area or that are in danger of extinction in the region, such as ‘Chipo’ and ‘Abarco de Río’, along with other species such as Caiba Tolua, Búcaro cachimbo, Nogal Cafetero and Chipo negro. The choice of these species is given after a careful analysis by the Environmental Management Department that seeks to diversify and recover the flora of the region in a responsible manner.

The nursery already has about 3,500 trees ready to be planted in the ground. The plantations are made in strategic areas where reforestation is needed and the land has been adapted for the process, allowing a better adaptation of the plant and facilitating excellent results in the restoration of ecosystems.

Since these reforestation days began, a greater presence of fauna has been achieved in the reforested areas, which shows that the work carried out by the company goes beyond the simple planting of trees. Since the arrival of The Muzo Companies Colombia , more than 10 billion pesos have been invested in environmental management, which includes different initiatives in strategic pillars such as soil recovery, water management, waste disposal, among others.

During the event, in which the administrative staff participated, activities ended in the planting of 50 individuals, which will take between 5 and 10 years to grow. The work of the company’s Environmental Department is key to ensuring sustainable reforestation, taking care of the trees during that time to ensure they grow and become an important part of the ecosystem.

For EMS, these reforestation days are yet another example of commitment to caring for the environment and sustainability, and an invitation to continue working paiting green these lands.
