After being runners-up in the V Mining Rescue Olympics 2022, organized by the National Mining Agency of Colombia (ANM). The Esmeraldas Mining Services (EMS) rescue team, Furia Esmeraldera, represented Colombia at the International Mine Rescue Olympics (IMRC 2022) that took place from September 9th to 16th in Beaver, West Virginia, United States.
With a successful participation in Russia in 2018, it is the second time that this brigade of experts in rescue and emergency, made up of eigth members from different departments of the company, had an international appointment measuring their skills and preparation with 20 teams of the best groups of mining rescuers in the world, from countries such as Canada, the United States, India, Australia, among others. Together with the Minminer team, they were the only representatives of Colombia and all of Latin America.
The competition included tests of theory, equipment mechanics, height, ability, rescue, fire control and first aid. All the tests were successfully passed by our heroes, some of them even before the time limit, demonstrating to high-level teams like Canada and the United States (Champions of the competition) that the West of Boyacá and Colombia has a group of committed rescuers, prepared and ready to respond to any type of emergency.
Although it has not been an easy task to position itself as one of the best mining rescue groups in Colombia. Furia Esmeraldera has developed her skills through training promoted by EMS and The Muzo Companies Colombia, with the best experts in the field, state-of-the-art equipment and training centers available at the company’s facilities. Thanks to their training and knowledge, they have managed to become a benchmark in the country’s mining sector, where, in addition to attending to eventualities that may arise in the Puerto Arturo mine, in Muzo, they offer assistance to different emergencies from other mines in the region.
Now, they hope to apply in their daily work and training in the Muzo mountains, all the knowledge acquired in the competition and from now on, they begin to prepare to be able to participate again in the next edition that will take place in our country in the year 2024.
