Furia Esmeraldera runners-up at the V Mining Rescue Olympics
Furia Esmeraldera, the group of mine rescuers from Esmeraldas Mining Services, EMS, and The Muzo Companies Colombia, roared again at the V National Mining Rescue Olympics. This year, the competition was held in the city of Zipaquirá, where 15 crews from all over the country met representing different companies in the sector, such as gold, copper, coal and emerald extraction. Furia Esmeraldera, who in 2018 represented the Muzo group and Colombia in the international Olympics in Russia, had an outstanding participation in the tests organized by the National Mining Agency.
The group is made up of 8 workers from different departments of the company such as mine operation, maintenance, HSE, among others, and this year, they completed their fourth participation in the national competition. In addition, they are the only crew in Colombia to have a equipment mechanic in the team, role generally assumed by professionals from the National Mining Agency, not to mention that for the last world championship he was awarded the second best equipment mechanic in the world.
On this occasion, besides highlighting the skill in mining rescue actions, emphasis was placed on the importance of prevention as a fundamental pillar of safety in underground work. Our crew obtained second place, both in the pre-hospital care test and in the simulation of a mine rescue action, becoming national runners-up for the second time. This achievement opens up the possibility of, once again, representing Colombia in the International Mine Rescue Olympics that will take place next year in the United States.
